How to care for shower curtain liners.
It is very important to keep a bathroom clean and germ free. Everyone wants to rid their bathrooms of the
germs and other bacteria, which can thrive in this room more than any others. Shower curtain liners are
breeding grounds for germs and other gross stuff such as mold and dirt. Wet shower curtains are often times
moist from constant usage of the tub and shower, and this warm, damp environment is where they love to grow.
Shower curtain liners can last for a long time, depending on the care and cleaning that is performed.
These liners are not expensive to purchase but anything can add up over time if one is constantly replacing them as
compared to simply cleaning and taking care of them. While this will not make them last forever, it will
greatly extend their lifespan.
Always be on the lookout for mildew on shower curtain liners. Moisture is always present on curtain liners
even after wiping them down after each use. Help prevent moisture and mildew by periodically spraying down
curtain liner with cleaner, preferably one with bleach. This will aid in keeping curtain liners free of mildew and
other things which will destroy the curtain liners if left untreated over time. See shower curtain care for more details.
It is also a good idea to check the lighting of the bathroom. It is a desirable to have nice, bright light
in this area of a home. Mildew, mold and bacteria tend to grow in dark places. Having good lighting can
aid with cutting down the growth of such things.
Upon completion of a shower or a bath, open the window(s) in the bathroom and turn on the bathroom fan.
This allows air to circulate and is a great tactic in minimizing the growth of mildew and mold. In addition,
while showering or taking a bath, ensure that the actual shower curtain is not inside the bathtub. Shower
curtain liners are designed to keep the water from the bath or shower inside the tub. There is no point in
ruining a nice shower curtain because it becomes wet and mildews.
Close the shower curtain after showering or bathing. This will allow the curtain to dry while stopping
moisture. Weekly cleanings are imperative with bathrooms. Wash down shower curtain liners at least once
a week with water and bleach and thoroughly dry them.
Change out shower liners as often as needed. It is a good idea to purchase heavy-duty liners but even with
these types of liners. Eventually, they are going to have to be replaced. Those who have large families with
multiple people constantly using the shower, will have to do this more often.
There are some things to consider when changing shower curtain liners. If the bathroom has poor
ventilation, it may be wise to consider having the shower liner chemically treated for mold and mildew
resistance. This can prove cost-efficient for families that go through numerous curtain liners.
